Preface
The energy-saving square counterflow fiberglass cooling tower designed by the Fourth Design and Research Institute of Mechanical Industry (hereinafter referred to as the Fourth Institute) is an improved design based on the measured data of similar towers in the original design. This design applies the "Energy-saving Fiberglass Cooling Tower" patent (patent No. 88215994.1) obtained by the Fourth Design and Research Institute of the Ministry of Mechanical Industry. The characteristic of this patent is that the cooling tower fan uses a variable torque, variable pole, two-speed motor. When the temperature is low, such as at night, the motor runs at low speed, and the cooling tower noise can be reduced by 3~5dB(A). In addition, the two-speed motor has a significant energy-saving effect and is safe and reliable. When multiple cooling towers are equipped with single-speed motors, in order to achieve energy saving, when the air wet-bulb temperature decreases, it can only be achieved by stopping and opening some fans. However, compared with multiple cooling towers equipped with two-speed motors, the annual power consumption is still 40% more.
This design also applies the national patent "Oblique trapezoidal corrugated filler for square counterflow cooling tower" (patent No.: 91216967.2) obtained by the Fourth Institute. According to the tests conducted by Beijing Water Conservancy Academy and Foshan actual tower, its thermal, resistance, and characteristics are superior to other fillers.
The control of the two-speed motor can be supplied as an accessory, or drawings of the control cabinet can be provided. The price of the control cabinet is not included in the price of the cooling tower and must be calculated separately.

The meaning of the cooling tower code is as follows
By water temperature drop
1. Low temperature drop, design water temperature drop 5℃, the code for low noise is represented by D, and the code for ultra-low noise is represented by CD;
2. Medium and high temperature drop, design water temperature 10~25℃, the code is represented by G in front.
By cooling tower components
1. Water panless type (the code ends with L)
2. Shallow water pan type (the code ends with DP)
3. Deep water pan type (the code ends with GP). The effective water storage depth of the deep water pan is 400mm. If you need to increase the water depth, you should specify it when ordering.
FN in the code represents steel structure square counterflow type.
The numbers in the code represent the specifications of the cooling tower, that is, the cooling water volume of a single cooling tower under design conditions, in units of m3/h (the elevation and foundation drawings show two towers, which can be used in practice as a single row of multiple towers or double row multiple towers in parallel).
The Fourth Design and Research Institute of the Ministry of Mechanical Industry has been researching and designing cooling towers since 1971. Its achievements have won provincial, municipal, and ministerial science and technology progress awards and major scientific and technological achievements awards many times, including the national science and technology progress award for low-noise variable-speed motors.
The design and research of cooling towers were jointly completed by the Fourth Institute and Tsinghua University. The noise control device of the ultra-low noise cooling tower was jointly completed with the Beijing Labor Protection Institute.
Selection and Use
When selecting a tower, you need to know the cooling water intake Q, inlet water temperature t1, outlet water temperature t2, and air wet-bulb temperature τ. Determine the tower specifications according to the thermal performance curve of this instruction. If it exceeds the range of the thermal performance curve, you can provide the data to the Fourth Institute for determination by electronic calculation.
The cooling tower material can withstand -50℃ low temperature, but for areas where the average monthly temperature in the coldest month is lower than -10℃, it should be stated when ordering so that anti-icing measures can be taken. The cost of the cooling tower will increase by about 3%.
The turbidity of the circulating water is not more than 50 mg/L, and it is not more than 100 mg/L for a short period. It should not contain oil stains and mechanical impurities. Algae control and water quality stabilization measures should be taken if necessary.
The load borne by the foundation of the cooling tower is shown in the "Foundation Embedment Plate and Load Table".
The inlet and outlet water pipe directions of the cooling tower can be rotated by 90°, 180°, and 270°.
The water distribution system is designed according to the nominal water volume. If the actual water volume differs from the nominal water volume by more than ±15%, it should be stated when ordering for design modification.
The inlet water temperature of the cooling tower does not exceed 60℃. If it exceeds 60℃, it should be stated when ordering.
The fan blade installation angle is adjustable, but the angle must be kept consistent, and the motor current should not exceed the rated current of the motor.
The fan can be reversed at low speed for a short time to remove ice.
When the water pan of the cooling tower is used as a water pool, "automatic water supply pipe", "rapid water supply pipe", "drainage pipe", and "overflow pipe" must be installed separately. This should be specified when ordering, and the cost will be calculated separately.
During the storage and transportation of cooling tower components, no heavy objects should be placed on them, they should not be exposed to the sun, and fire prevention should be noted. During the installation, transportation, and maintenance of the cooling tower, no open flames such as electric and gas welding should be used, and no fireworks or firecrackers should be set off nearby. If there are fire-retardant requirements, they should be stated when ordering.
The operating weight of this tower only considers the weight of the cooling tower water, not the weight of scaling and adhering impurities. If the water quality is poor, it is recommended to increase the operating weight appropriately. The foundation load has been calculated according to the scaling weight.
Structural Features
1. Filler: Using the Fourth Institute's patented product - oblique trapezoidal corrugated filler, the transverse convex ribs are increased, the water redistribution capacity is large, the resistance is small, the thermal performance is good, it is resistant to high temperature of 70℃, resistant to low temperature of -50℃, and has good flame retardancy.
2. Motor: The YLF series motor is a new generation of three-phase asynchronous motors specially designed for cooling towers by our company. Its design concept and structural type fully consider the use environment of cooling tower motors, and are reasonably matched with the cooling tower in terms of sealing, moisture-proof, water resistance, and reliability, fully meeting the outdoor protection requirements for long-term operation in wet and hot environments.
3. Speed Reducer: NGW type cooling tower dedicated low-noise planetary gear reducer. The gear material of this reducer is carefully selected, and the manufacturing process is strict. After mechanical processing, it undergoes tempering, carburizing, quenching and other heat treatments. All gears are finally subjected to gear grinding (external teeth), ensuring the overall quality of the reducer. Due to the adoption of planetary gear transmission, it can withstand high-speed heavy loads and has advantages such as impact resistance, corrosion resistance, stable operation, and low noise. Its matching motor is a YLF series cooling tower dedicated three-phase asynchronous motor.
4. Fan: Low-noise, high-efficiency, airfoil fiberglass blades designed by the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Tsinghua University, according to the parameters of this series of products. Low noise, high efficiency, and adjustable blade angle.
5. Water Collection and Distribution Device: Reflective low-pressure nozzles are used. Single swirl nozzles are used for small towers, ensuring uniform water distribution and low water pressure. The water collecting device can reduce drift water loss to 0.01%.
6. Sound Absorption Measures: A shield and sound-absorbing grille with sound-absorbing material are installed on the top of the tower outlet of the ultra-low noise cooling tower to reduce the noise of the fan and motor.
7. Sound Absorption Facilities: A sound-absorbing grille with sound-absorbing material is installed at the air inlet of the ultra-low noise cooling tower to achieve maximum noise reduction.
8. Drip Noise Reduction Pad: For low-noise and ultra-low noise cooling towers, a sound-absorbing pad with good water permeability is specially designed. A layer of sloped wave plates is installed underneath, greatly reducing the dripping noise.
9. Maintenance Platform: A checkered steel plate maintenance platform on the top of the tower facilitates maintenance and installation.
10. Lower Tower Basin: Cooling towers with shallow and deep basins have lower tower basins for water storage. According to order requirements, overflow, drainage, automatic and manual water supply pipes can be provided, and water can be directly drawn from the lower tower basin.
11. Support Frame: Cooling tower steel support frame, galvanized and coated with epoxy asphalt paint for corrosion protection. Fasteners are all galvanized bolts.
