Preface
The energy-saving square counter-flow fiberglass cooling tower designed by the Fourth Design and Research Institute of the Ministry of Machinery Industry (hereinafter referred to as the Fourth Institute) is an improved design based on the measured data of similar towers in the original design. This design applies the patent for "Energy-saving fiberglass cooling tower" obtained by the Fourth Design and Research Institute of the Ministry of Machinery Industry (Patent No. 88215994.1). The characteristic of this patent is that the cooling tower fan is equipped with a variable torque, variable pole, two-speed motor. When the temperature is low, such as at night, the motor runs at low speed, and the cooling tower noise can be reduced by 3~5dB(A). In addition, the two-speed motor has a significant energy-saving effect and is safe and reliable in operation. When multiple cooling towers are equipped with single-speed motors, in order to achieve energy saving, when the air wet-bulb temperature decreases, it can only be achieved by stopping and opening some fans. However, compared with multiple cooling towers equipped with two-speed motors, the annual power consumption is still 40% higher.
This design also applies the national patent for "Oblique trapezoidal corrugated filler for square counter-flow cooling tower" obtained by the Fourth Institute (Patent No.: 91216967.2). According to the tests conducted by Beijing Water Science and Technology Institute and Foshan's actual tower, its thermal, resistance, and characteristics are all superior to other fillers.
The control of the two-speed motor can be supplied with matching equipment, or drawings of the control cabinet can be provided. The price of the control cabinet is not included in the price of the cooling tower and must be calculated separately.

The meaning of the cooling tower code is as follows
By water temperature drop
1. Low temperature drop, design water temperature drop 5℃, the code for low noise is D, and the code for ultra-low noise is CD;
2. Medium and high temperature drop, design water temperature 10~25℃, the code is prefixed with G.
By cooling tower components
1. Water pan type (the code ends with L)
2. Shallow water pan type (the code ends with DP)
3. Deep water pan type (the code ends with GP). The effective water storage depth of the deep water pan is 400mm. If a larger water depth is required, it should be specified when ordering.
FN in the code represents steel structure square counter-flow type.
The numbers in the code represent the specifications of the cooling tower, that is, the cooling water volume of a single cooling tower under the design conditions, in units of m3/h (the elevation and foundation drawings show two towers, which can be used as multiple towers in a single row or multiple towers in double rows in parallel).
The Fourth Design and Research Institute of the Ministry of Machinery Industry has been researching and designing cooling towers since 1971. Its achievements have won provincial, municipal, and ministerial scientific and technological progress awards and major scientific and technological achievements awards many times. Among them, the low-noise variable-speed motor has won a national scientific and technological progress award.
The design and research of the cooling tower was jointly completed by the Fourth Institute and Tsinghua University. The noise control device of the ultra-low noise cooling tower was jointly completed with the Beijing Labor Protection Institute.
Selection and Use
When selecting a tower, you need to know the cooling water intake Q, the inlet water temperature t1, the outlet water temperature t2, and the air wet-bulb temperature τ. Determine the tower specifications according to the thermodynamic performance curve of this instruction. If it exceeds the range of the thermodynamic performance curve, the data can be provided to the Fourth Institute for determination by computer calculation.
The material of the cooling tower can withstand low temperatures of -50℃, but for areas where the average temperature of the coldest month is below -10℃, it should be stated when ordering so that anti-icing measures can be taken. The cost of the cooling tower will increase by about 3%.
The turbidity of the circulating water should not exceed 50 mg/L, and the short-term turbidity should not exceed 100 mg/L. It should not contain oil stains and mechanical impurities. If necessary, algae killing and water quality stabilization measures should be taken.
The load borne by the foundation of the cooling tower can be found in the "Foundation Embodied Plate and Load Table".
The inlet and outlet water pipe directions of the cooling tower can be rotated by 90°、180°、270°.
The water distribution system is designed according to the nominal water volume. If the actual water volume differs from the nominal water volume by more than ±15%, it should be stated when ordering so that the design can be modified.
The inlet water temperature of the cooling tower does not exceed 60℃. If it exceeds 60℃, it should be stated when ordering.
The installation angle of the fan blades is adjustable, but the angle must be kept consistent, and the current of the motor should not exceed the rated current of the motor.
The fan can be reversed at low speed for a short time to remove ice.
When the water pan of the cooling tower is used as a water pool, "automatic water supply pipe", "rapid water supply pipe", "drainage pipe", and "overflow pipe" must be installed separately. It should be specified when ordering, and the cost will be calculated separately.
During the storage and transportation of cooling tower components, no heavy objects should be placed on them, they should not be exposed to the sun, and fire prevention should be noted. During the installation, transportation, and maintenance of the cooling tower, open flames such as electric welding and gas welding should not be used, and fireworks and firecrackers should not be set off nearby. If there are fire-retardant requirements, they should be specified when ordering.
The operating weight of this tower only considers the weight of the water in the cooling tower, not the weight of scaling and adhering impurities. If the water quality is poor, it is recommended to increase the operating weight appropriately. The foundation load has been calculated according to the scaling weight.
Structural Features
1. Filler: Using the Fourth Institute's patented product - oblique trapezoidal corrugated filler, with transverse convex ribs added, it has a large water redistribution capacity, low resistance, good thermal performance, high temperature resistance of 70℃, low temperature resistance of -50℃, and good flame retardancy.
2. Motor: The YLF series motor is a new generation of three-phase asynchronous motors for cooling towers developed by our company. Its design concept and structural type fully consider the use environment of cooling tower motors. In terms of sealing, moisture-proof, water resistance, and reliability, it is reasonably matched with the cooling tower, fully meeting the outdoor protection requirements for long-term operation in a humid and hot environment.
3. Speed Reducer: A low-noise planetary gear reducer, specifically designed for NGW cooling towers. The gear material is carefully selected, and the manufacturing process is strict. After machining, the gears undergo heat treatment such as tempering, carburizing, and quenching. All gears are finally ground (external teeth), ensuring the overall quality of the reducer. Due to the planetary gear transmission, it can withstand high-speed heavy loads and has advantages such as impact resistance, corrosion resistance, smooth operation, and low noise. The matching motor is a YLF series three-phase asynchronous motor specifically for cooling towers.
4. Fan: Low-noise, high-efficiency, airfoil fiberglass blades designed by Tsinghua University's Department of Engineering Mechanics for this series of products. The fan features low noise, high efficiency, and adjustable blade angles.
5. Water Collection and Distribution System: Utilizes a reflective low-pressure nozzle; small towers use a single swirl nozzle. Water distribution is even, and water pressure is low. The water collection device reduces drift loss to 0.01%.
6. Sound Absorption Measures: The ultra-low noise cooling tower has a shield and sound-absorbing grille with sound-absorbing material installed above the upper tower body outlet, reducing the noise of the fan and motor.
7. Sound Absorption Facilities: The ultra-low noise cooling tower is equipped with a sound-absorbing grille with sound-absorbing material at the air inlet for maximum noise reduction.
8. Drip Noise Reduction Pad: A highly water-permeable sound-absorbing pad is specially designed for low-noise and ultra-low-noise cooling towers. A layer of inclined wave plates is installed underneath, significantly reducing drip noise.
9. Maintenance Platform: A checkered steel plate maintenance platform on the top of the tower facilitates maintenance and installation.
10. Lower Basin: Cooling towers with shallow and deep basins have a lower basin for water storage. According to order requirements, overflow, drainage, and automatic and manual water supply pipes can be provided, allowing direct water intake from the lower basin.
11. Support Frame: The cooling tower steel support frame is galvanized and coated with epoxy asphalt paint for corrosion protection. Fasteners are all galvanized bolts.
