Working principle of a square counterflow cooling tower
1. In the tower packing, water flows from top to bottom, and air flows from bottom to top; the two flow in opposite directions. This is a type of cooling tower.
2. Square counterflow cooling towers have good thermal performance and are divided into three cooling sections:
① The space from the water distributor to the top of the packing. The water temperature in this section is higher, so heat can still be transferred to the air.
② The section where the packing water and air exchange heat.
③ The water spraying section from the packing to the sump. The water is cooled in this section, which is called "tail effect". In northern China, the water temperature can be lowered by 1-2℃. In summary, under the same conditions, the counterflow tower has about 20% less packing volume than the crossflow tower, and the heat exchange process of the counterflow tower is more reasonable and efficient.
3. The water distribution system is not easily blocked, the water spraying packing remains clean and does not age easily, there is little moisture reflux, and antifreeze measures are easier to implement. Multiple units can be combined in design. In winter, the required water temperature and quantity can be combined for single-unit operation or all fans can be stopped.
4. Construction, installation, and maintenance are easy and inexpensive. They are commonly used in air conditioning and industrial large and medium-sized cooling circulating water systems.
Square cooling towers have the characteristics of good thermal performance, low power consumption, good overall stability, beautiful appearance, low noise, short construction and equipment cycle, and low cost. They are widely used in large-volume circulating systems of enterprises in the petroleum, chemical, metallurgical, and power generation industries. If a square cooling tower malfunctions, we should first check the cause of the malfunction and then solve the problem.
1. The cooling tower is used with water-cooled chillers. For cooling towers using belt reduction equipment, stop the machine every two weeks to check the belt tension. Adjust if necessary. If the tension of several belts is different, replace the entire set. If the cooling tower is not running for a long time, remove and store the belts.
2. If the cooling tower uses gear reduction equipment, stop the machine once a month to check the oil level in the gearbox. Add oil if it is insufficient. In addition, check the color and viscosity of the oil every six months of operation. If it does not meet the requirements, replace it entirely. After the cooling tower has accumulated 5000 hours of use, regardless of the oil quality, the gearbox must be cleaned and the lubricating oil replaced to ensure that the cooling tower can provide continuous circulating cooling water for the chiller.
3. The motor of the cooling tower fan operates in a humid and hot environment for a long time. To ensure its insulation function and prevent motor burnout, an insulation test of the motor must be performed annually. If it does not meet the requirements, it will not only affect the cooling tower but also directly affect the normal operation of the water-cooled chiller, so it must be dealt with or replaced in time.
4. Check for any damage to the packing. If there is any, repair or replace it in time.
5. The lubricating grease of all bearings in the fan system is generally replaced once a year.
